7 TIPS FOR WORKING FROM HOME AMID COVID 19

Covid-19 is reshaping the way we work and operate with increasingly more offices closing and people forced to work from home. Because of this we thought it would be a good idea to share some tips of how we are coping with this new way of working we are all having to adapt to.

1.
Get yourself ready- Although it may sound like an obvious point, however it is very easy to wake up at the last minute, stay in your PJ’s and not worry about your hair or makeup. Don’t fall into the trap of falling straight out of your bed and into your inbox. Get up, brush your teeth, shower; shave or do your makeup and then have breakfast. You will feel much better about yourself and ready to start your day.

2.
Create a sense of separation from work activities to home activities. After breakfast go for a short walk before you  start work. By doing this you’ve been out, traveled. And then when you get home, you’ll be ready for work and in a different frame of mind. This will not only help you get into routine, but also give you the additional benefit of
having some exercise before you start your day.

3.
Create a dedicated workplace. Everyone’s home is different, but it is important you find an area you can concentrate. This could be in a spare room, at a dining room table, or a desk in your bedroom. Keep your work area tidy and desk clean just like you would if you were in the office.

4.
Maintain a routine throughout your working day. If you would normally get up from your desk at work to make a coffee or go to your local coffee shop, then still do this. Take some time away from the computer and become your own barista. This will help break the monotony and create a separation and balance throughout your working day.

5.
Make a to do list. When you are at home it is very easy to become distracted. Set yourself goals/ targets. You may not have a supervisor or manager checking over your work like you would do in an office environment. So it is important
you become a good self manager. Stay disciplined.

6.
Stay social. When in the office you will find yourself naturally talking to your colleagues either when you are at the desk, going to meetings, or when making a cup of tea. When you’re working from home it is essential you remain social. There are a lot of ways to do this with today’s technology. Facebook, Skype, WhatsApp video and Zoom are popular ways. But also, we can do other things as well to lighten the mood and stay social. Make a video of a skill you have and share it, turn it into a competition and make it fun. Share pictures of what you prepared for lunch or have a dress up day oppose to a dress down Friday that you may have in the office. Choose a day of the week where you have to wear business attire; or again make it funny and do a fancy dress day.

7.
Lastly finish when you’re supposed to finish. It’s too easy to work overtime. If your office closed at 6pm you would then go home, and anything not done would be left to the next day. It’s so important you continue with this and maintain a work life balance. Finish when you are meant to.

So, stay safe and look after one another.
